Parsons Creek Resources Project
A
proposed limestone quarry by Graymont and Inland.
In the high growth Fort McMurray region, traditional supplies of sand and gravel are being depleted. An economical new source of rock products is required. The Parsons Creek Resources Project can provide that source. The proposed project, to be located north of Fort McMurray, will provide the region with high quality limestone products for construction, environmental and industrial applications.
Graymont has been exploring for limestone in the Fort McMurray region for over 20 years. We believe the limestone deposit that is the basis for the Parsons Creek Resources Project is the highest quality limestone in the region. Based on our sampling and analysis to date, the limestone is of high chemical quality, tests as excellent for concrete aggregate, and is not contaminated with bitumen. In addition the deposit is abundant, is in close proximity to the Fort McMurray market and is relatively easy to access, with minimal overburden compared to other deposits in the region.
We believe this project will bring many benefits to the region. These include products necessary for the region’s continued growth and development, stable employment, economic diversification, and opportunity for local suppliers and contractors. Use of products from the project will also likely result in reduced environmental impact from oil sands operations.
We have begun the Environmental Impact Assessment process for this project. Please click on “Upcoming Stakeholder Consultations” to see how you can participate in consultations regarding this project.
